Acadsoc

Acadsoc, founded in 2011, runs an online platform linking home-based tutors with learners for 1-to-1 ESL classes, mainly for Chinese students, using its E-Classroom system.

Acadsoc (Academic Society Online) is an online English education platform that connects home-based tutors with learners around the world, delivering 1-to-1 ESL classes primarily to Chinese students. Founded in 2011, the company employs a network of more than 10,000 tutors who teach from home on flexible schedules. Its stated aim is to build the world's largest online academy.

Teaching is conducted through E-Classroom, an interactive platform built for real-time 1-to-1 sessions between tutors and students. Classes serve a broad learner base, from children to working adults, and the company says it has reached over 40 million Chinese students. Tutors are offered teacher training programmes, TESOL certification opportunities and performance-based bonuses.

Acadsoc is headquartered in Shenzhen, China, with additional presence in the Philippines, Hong Kong, London and New York. The company raised CNY 1.1m in seed funding and a further CNY 21m from Asian investors. Its technical work spans online education platform development, virtual classroom technology and interactive tutoring systems.
