BelovED Community & Empowerment Academy Charter Schools

Empowerment Academy Charter School is a free public charter school headquartered in Jersey City, New Jersey, and part of the BelovED Community & Empowerment Academy Charter Schools network. Founded in 2015, it serves K-12 students from every neighbourhood of the city across four campuses and is one of Jersey City's fastest-growing charter schools. The school is publicly funded and charges no tuition.

Teaching at the school is organised around a Literacy Through the Arts curriculum, an educational philosophy that integrates arts disciplines into all curriculum areas, with students actively engaged in learning each day. Subject coverage includes literacy education and mathematics alongside visual art, dance, theater and music. The stated academic goal is for all students to reach or exceed grade level in reading and math.

The arts programme is a graduation requirement of its own kind: before leaving the school, every scholar demonstrates proficiency in an arts discipline through performance or portfolio. Staff work within a sister-school model under the parent organisation, BelovED Community & Empowerment Academy Charter Schools, with an emphasis on developing values, skills, knowledge, confidence and character alongside academic attainment.
