East Side House is a community organisation based in the South Bronx, founded in 1891. It works across the Bronx and Northern Manhattan, connecting education, career preparation and supportive services with families, children, adults and older adults. The organisation reports serving more than 10,000 children and families each year through a network of neighbourhood locations.
Its education work spans the full age range. Programmes include early childhood learning and literacy; secondary education and academic enrichment, delivered as a supplement to public schooling; and adult literacy and GED preparation. Alongside these, East Side House runs technology training for adults, employment services and career readiness support for people facing economic barriers, family and social services, senior programmes and food distribution.
The organisation works in collaboration with schools, city agencies, community groups, families and employers, and describes its mission as creating pathways out of poverty and economic independence. It also holds The Winter Show, an antiques and decorative arts fundraising event that supports its community work.
