Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) is New Mexico's largest community college, serving approximately 33,000 students a year across 150 academic and workforce training programs. Founded in 1965 as the Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute, with an initial enrolment of 150 students, the college now operates in the greater Albuquerque area, including Albuquerque and Rio Rancho. Its programmes span Business, Hospitality and Technology; Education; Health, Wellness and Public Safety; Liberal Arts; Math, Science and Engineering; Nursing and Patient Support; and Skilled Trades and Arts.
The college prepares students for careers, for transfer to universities and for skilled roles demanded by regional employers. It works with businesses to supply the local economy with trained workers, including a partnership with Intel to develop technology talent pipelines. Its CNM Ingenuity initiative delivers workforce training, while the FUSE Makerspace supports entrepreneurship and fabrication.
Education is the institution's core vertical, and teaching roles sit within a broad disciplinary spread that includes liberal arts, health and public safety, and applied technical fields. CNM states a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, and consistently ranks among the top community colleges in the United States for degrees and certificates earned by Hispanic and Native American students.
