Great Hearts Academies

A nonprofit charter school network running 47 tuition-free classical liberal arts K-12 academies in Arizona and Texas, serving more than 25,000 students.

Great Hearts Academies is a nonprofit charter school management organisation founded in 2003. It operates a network of tuition-free classical liberal arts schools for pupils from kindergarten through to the twelfth grade, currently running 47 academies that serve more than 25,000 students across Arizona and Texas, principally in the Phoenix and San Antonio regions.

The academies follow a classical liberal arts curriculum covering advanced mathematics, classical literature, philosophy and the wider liberal arts. Teaching is paired with deliberate attention to character formation: students are expected to practise nine core virtues, among them responsibility, perseverance, integrity and courage. The stated mission is to cultivate the minds and hearts of students through the pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty, with an emphasis on intellectual flourishing and meaningful participation in civic life.

The organisation describes itself as the largest and highest-performing classical school network in the country. As a nonprofit, it offers its education without charge to families, on the belief that public education can and should be transformed. Further details on the network, its schools and its academic programme are available at greatheartsamerica.org.
